She is unpredictable, frequent moodswings. Sometimes she’s nice, and sometimes she’s not. Her name is Yan Ying. 90% of the world can’t pronounce it properly, simple as it seems. But no one really cares so they just call her YY. She is not fond of people with the same name as her. She turns 14 on 6th September and she loves her birthday cause it is a sex symbol. She was from Yew Tee Primary and is still proud of her school. She will never forget the class of 6D’07, or the batch of P6’07. She is currently an idiot in Nanyang Girls High and it is a love-hate relationship. She belongs to 202’09 which she, to be honest, doesn’t feel much for. She is a Theatre Club girl and is more than proud to be one. She especially loves Emo Batch♥, and looks forward to devoting her next 3 years to TCN with much optimism. She does ballet with more than just passion but she can’t do a center split. She is trying her best and is currently aiming for a far-fetched distinction for Grade6. She loves hiphop just as much though she’s pretty new at it. Her favourite sport is swimming and she occasionally plays basketball as a form of stress-relief. She likes to be tan and loves her swimming tan line. The piano, is yet another love-hate relationship. Like most teenagers, her hobbies include MSNing, blogging, and youtubing and facebooking. She loves shopping and doing random stuff like gaying people, jumping over railings, walking in the rain, and having completely irregular sleeping hours. Unlike most teenagers, she thinks that rap music is trash. She also thinks that she is getting old cause she hates the songs the average listens to these days. She can’t explain her love for oldies, country music, ballads, and sentimentals. Nostalgic songs are the best. Her favourite bands are Michael Learns to Rock, The Beatles and Westlife. She loves too many singers to name them all. “Forevers” are bullshit as of now. The night speaks to her the way no one else can. Her favourite thing to do is to curl up with a book on a rainy afternoon in her room, where she feels safest in. Her favourite flower is a black rose, but on the contrary, she likes rainbows and hugs too. She is always torn between two. But she is determined when she sets her mind on something, so she wants the world to shut up and believe in her. Just watch.Tag

old stories.
Over dinner today my mum told me scraps of stories about her kampong days and of my maternal grandparents. We were out having dinner at Warren so she could take her time to tell me one by one, and I find them really interesting so I shall just share some of them.So anyway, shall start off with my grandmother. My grandmother used to be a rich kid, lived in a bungalow in Malaysia, had a chauffeur to drive her around, attended swimming lessons etc which was quite rare in the olden days. Her father was a well-to-do businessman who even had relations with Lee Guang Qian, fyi he's Tan Kah Kee's son-in-law. I don't know about her mother though, except that she was robbed and then kicked to death. So her dad remarried another woman, who apparently was the rich snobby typical "evil" stepmother kind. Oh yah she burnt most of my grandmother's childhood pictures and ill-treated her and her older sister. My mum said she saw the stepmother before and she seriously looks like the damn fierce kind.. You know the eyes and stuff. When my grandmother was in her late teens, she came over to Singapore to play (that's the word my mum used), and so because my grandfather was some long distant relative of hers, he brought her around Singapore. Now when my grandfather was younger he was the shuai shuai kind okay, and used to have girls bringing him gifts (some even gold) to his doorstep. When one of them heard that he was gonna marry my grandma later on she even cried lol. Shall go find a picture of him later.. When my grandma went back to Malaysia they wrote letters to each other, and one day she told her father that she wanted to go to Singapore to learn uh, hairstyling. Thus her father got very angry because in those days hairstylists usually double up as those women so he didn't allow her to go. But well she went anyway, didn't learn hairstyling but instead went out with my grandfather and eventually married him. When her father learnt about that he wanted to 断绝关系 with her, but she didn't care and went ahead to marry my grandpa. Like drama serial like that right! So imagine how such a wealthy lady turned into one who lived in kampongs and had to feed chickens.. My mum said they always tease her for being so stupid and blind to have married my grandpa! Who has a really horrid temper and no money. My mum also told me about an incident to show how deeply in love they were (sounds cheesy), well they were at some Sultan place in Johor Bahru cause you know on certain occasions they open it up and let people come in etc. Then they were talking to each other in the garden and lost track of the time, so when they finally realised everyone else was gone already! Hmm how should I continue. Well when my mum was young like in her kampong days, she lived with lots of cousins and relatives, so their house is like really long that kind of thing (one storey only I think, it's just long). It's like 4 different families, so like 8 adults all together (plus maybe one or two of their parents) and loads of children meaning her cousins and siblings. Once when a reporter went past their house he/she even got everyone to come out and take a picture cause the family is so big! My mum says after my exam she's gonna take out the old photos stashed somewhere in my grandparents' house and show me. Yah so the house beside theirs is my grandfather's older brother's family whom they don't acknowledge. Because his wife is a prostitute and is damn rude to people so it's a shame to their family.. Even my grandfather's mother (who lives with my grandfather, sorry if you're confused) said that she doesn't want them to come to her funeral, which means she doesn't even want her own son to go. My mum also told me that whenever the prostitute washes clothes outside, she will sing a song that goes, "给我一个吻...可以不可以..." Haha! Oh yeah and there's this funny incident, cause their house reared alot of ducks and there's this particular one that the prostitute likes (named 鸭宝宝). Then cause my grandfather's a lorry driver, one day he was driving home and knocked the duck down. So the prostitute was damn drama - she came out of the house, cradled the duck in her arms, and wailed "鸭宝宝..! 鸭宝宝..!" Then my mum and her siblings and cousins were watching and they were laughing quite badly. So mean right! But the prostitute deserves it, I mean for hurling all the vulgarities and stuff. What else. Oh my mum says that my grandfather had a day job as a lorry driver (and eventually a school bus driver), but he will go home very late in the night cause he usually goes to gamble/play mahjong/go drinking. If he wins money he will treat the entire family to supper, and if he loses uhh bad mood haha. Their pocket money kind of depended on that too. My mum says when she was younger she didn't have very good relations with my grandfather because she doesn't see him often, and he has a really fiery temper. Once my second uncle (ex hwachong-ian, kind of weird to picture him in the exact same communist uniform haha) went to steal stuff from a bookstore and got it really badly from him. My first uncle (same school) was the more guai one who comes back home right after school, but not for my second uncle. My second uncle has a passion for football, till now he still watches football alot, so he always stays back in school to play football with his friends until damn late, so of course everytime get scolded. One day he went with that group of friends to the bookshop and stole like what, coloured erasers (oh man haha!). The security camera caught them in action and the storekeeper gave them a chance and didn't report to the police, but recorded down their parent's particulars. As fate would have it the storekeeper knew my grandfather cause he was rather popular around that area in back then, so yah. My uncle had to kneel in front of the 神台 or something (reminds me of Nyonya) and my grandfather whipped him with his belt, shouting at him until "整个屋子要倒下来". What else again. Hmm my mum said that her grandmother had 老人痴呆症and showered for twenty over times per day. Then whenever my mum wants to shower she will scold my mum for not letting her shower. Oh my mum also claims that there were ghosts around there, cause once when she was inside showering and her grandmother was outside waiting, her grandmother suddenly said "喂不要进去! 有人在里面的!" and it freaked my mum out quite badly, cause there was nobody but her and her grandmother around there. And once during Chinese New Year's Eve, my grandmother and two other wives (okay I don't know how to refer to them in English.. my second cousins' grandmothers -.-) were baking stuff outside the house at night. Then they saw a white figure descending a hill (there was a small hill in front of their house) and going towards them, but went to the prostitute's house instead. She went past the gate without opening it, and once the thing got into the place the ducks started quacking really loudly. Damn scary. And then there's another neighbour who was super stingy. They like to guailan him and steal his guava fruits, so sometimes he even chased them around. Okay that's all for now. I can't believe in my fourteen years of existence I've never heard all these! It's super cool, and after exam I think I'm going to dig up more of these. Haha can compile into a book.. Valuable stuff, sorry if it held no interest to you whatsoever though! Oh and I just uploaded my grandparents' pictures, ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh mannn haha, that was last year. When I was in primarys school my grandfather used to drive me to and from school, so some of my friends would see him and ask if he was my father cause he doesn't look all that old. Okay continue. Oh man I really ought to be revising for Math. I'm forgetting my basics. =/ - |
